A CFL lamp does not fit in this fixture because of the shallow depth of the glass bulb. A standard light bulb has to be used and as we all shift away from standard tungsten lamps from wasting electricity, this design of fixture does not allow the more efficient CFL lamps to be used. I thought I was getting a bargain. What I got was a cheap bench. Mine also arrived missing a part that is still in transit from DC America. They did not seem surprised when I called. The wood was clearly not prepared to survive outdoor conditions and I had to fight the pieces to get the screw holes to line up. I gave it a few coats of black varnish and now I do really like what I've got. If you're willing to treat the wood and curse a bit while putting it together, it's still a decent buy. No one else seems to make anything this cheap or this quirky!
