This bench came up when I searched "black bench" on Amazon. It looks black on the product page, but it is actually a paint finish that I guess is supposed to be an imitation of weathered bronze or antique brass. It has gold colored paint finish streaked over a black-colored paint base in an 'antiquing" method.

Brush strokes/wipe marks are everywhere. The result is not even near to black, and I find it cheap looking. They could raise the value so much more to have a plain, black finish. This is a matter of taste, but, in general, I do not like ersatz finishes and appreciate paint for itself, without pretense, on an object such as this. I do not want (bad) trompe-l'oeil on a bench; I would like durable, well-applied paint. Sometimes less is more. Painted aluminum and iron is better than pretend-bronze, for me.

Look at the close-up (mouse over) views of "Leigh Country Welcome Bench, Metal" and at "Darlee Nassau Cast Aluminum Patio Bench - Antique Bronze" (on Amazon) for the closest things I could find to show what the paint on this really looks like. But lots more brush strokes and streaks in the bronze color.

It arrives flat packed and must be put together. It easily screws together with 8 bolts, using an included wrench key. The cardboard container barely survived the shipping process. There was no damage, but it might make a return hard, because it would not travel back well. The bench is sturdy, and but for the bad paint job and poor product description page, I'd have found it a 4 or 5 star value at this price.

The description also says "made with steel", but the arms, legs and seat seem to be bent aluminum rectangular tubing. The back is cast iron, somewhat roughly cast and bumpy, not smooth, in spots. The description should note the main materials. It is what it is and people will like it for itself. No need to try to be "clever"/misleading in descriptions.

Conclusion: The bench is comfortable and the size matches the description. The product page should be updated to avoid mistakes. It should clearly say the paint color, and show a better picture of the paint finish. If you really want black for aesthetic reasons, this will disappoint you. It's a good value otherwise, and many people might like the color. Taste is personal, so don't let me stop you! I don't mean to be a snob, only to warn people who especially want a black bench!
