I have been camping and hunting all my life and have used many different methods for starting fires. All the methods I have used or have tried to learn have some advantages and some flaws IE. lighters break, run out of fluid, matches are hard to use in wind and even water proof matches can be hard to start if the striker is damp. Fire bows and hand drills are something that you have to practice a lot to learn how to make work. Flint and steel also require practice and can be difficult to get an ember going. The fire piston is one of the easiest ways I have ever used to start a fire. It does require a little practice but once you have the hang of it that is it. This one comes with a small piece of charred cloth to let you practice and to get you started with some tinder. It has a very solid construction and looks great. The part you need to practice is taking the ember and stating tinder with it. This fire piston comes with two replacement o-rings and some good basic instructions on how to use it and different types of tinder to use. The pressure release valve is a nice feature as it lets you place the piston all the way back down in the chamber for storage.
