So I purchased this item because I have an electric dog door into a room that is carpeted. I didn't want my dog going in and out to get the new carpet dirty. He doesn't go out too often when it's raining, so when I was nearby I'd have him just stand there for a few seconds so the mat could absorb the water. It worked great.

Since then, I've moved by electric dog door. I left the mat where it is because he seems to like to use it as a bed. The other week my girlfriend's dog and a dog we were watching were barking in the middle of the night. We went to check to see what was going on...it turns out my dog was laying on this mat and something was wrong...he wasn't moving and had urinated all over himself/the mat. Obviously, we went to the vet. They said they think he had a seizure (obviously, NOT related to the mat). When we got home, I went to the mat to wash it and see the damage to my carpet. Not one drop of liquid got through the mat. I was pretty surprised as I have a large dog (Japanese Akita) and I'm sure he soaked the mat pretty well. I threw it in my washer on the sanitize feature. The white bone design is a bit browned from the wash, but the mat is still working perfectly.

I'm really happy with this purchase...happier that a week and a half later he hasn't had another episode!!
