The first of 14 Kestrel models ranging in price from $75ish to $900ish covering amateur and commercial/government uses, the Kestrel 1000 appears to be a SWEET SPOT FOR VALUE for those primarily interested in airflow/wind measurement. The $75ish Kestrel 1000 uses the same quality impeller, bearings, and mechanism as their higher end commercial and ballistics units.

- MIL-SPEC DROP TESTED, MIL-STD-810F (procedure 4) and 810G. 4 foot drop, all 26 points of impact. Test done with the same unit throughout (Spec 810 allows 5 units, doing it with 1 is more conservative, clearly). Test was not done by a 3rd party, but for merely $75 and a concrete floor you can execute your own test:). Separate tests also showed that with drops over and over, the impeller is usually the first to fail, and they are easily and inexpensively replaceable with the Kestrel units.

- My limited experience with customer support so far was very positive. They have a few key customer support and techie folks with the relevant detailed knowledge, and on occasion they are out at shows so if you get a fill-in covering for them you may need to wait for them to return for knowledgeable support, usually within a week. If you get a fill-in, don't judge the company, they seem to usually be truly excellent on the customer support side.

CONS:
------

- Can't think of anything important for the price point, though it would be nice if it had a backlight like a few of their higher end models, and it would be nice if it was more legible from side angles since the meter isn't always between us and the air flow source.

SWAPPING IMPELLER EXPERIENCE:
--------------------------------

I ordered a replacement impeller (the fan), paying extra for next day service, and replacing it was super easy. You just push out the old and push in the new. Just be sure to push only on the outer edges of the impeller and have the triangle on the same side as the display like the mini-instructions say to.

INSTRUCTIONS FROM KESTREL:
------------------------------

- Wind speed calibration and testing should be done with triangle on impeller located at the top front face of the Kestrel.

- After several hours at 56 mph (4,923 ft/min) accuracy will be lost, this is a common attribute of anemometers with moving parts. You can then buy a replacement impeller for a fraction of the cost of the meter.

- Kestrel meters use Zytel bearings now instead of sapphire bearings. They are in the process of updating written materials, some haven't made that description modification yet. They found Zytel bearings easier to work with and expect them to lengthen product life by wearing less on a part.

- When not in use be sure to keep it in its (or any) container to keep pet hair, etc. out of the impeller.

EZ Clean AEZ31023 Surface Cleaner for Quick Connect Pressure Washer Wands, 15-Inch Review

First the positive: It worked pretty well and cut cleaning time quite a bit. It's cheap compared to professional surface cleaners and it seems somewhat durable overall. Now the negative: The problem I had was that it shredded the 2 plastic washers on whats called the 'trunk' (part #678546001), which is the part that goes under the plastic housing and is located inside the deck swivel assembly which holds the spray bars. The trunk started leaking heavily because of the damaged plastic washers. You can't order just the replacement plastic washers from the manufacturer and I didn't want to pay $20 for a new trunk after every use so I bought 2 new washers from a hardware store and modified them to replace the shredded ones and now the spray bar won't rotate at all. The older model of these had recalls because they would vibrate out of control and had caused lacerations to the users. This newer model is better but mine failed after only 1 use. This is a problem from the manufacturer and I am hoping they will work with me either by sending me a new trunk and/or other parts so that the problem is eliminated or by sending me a new unit as a complete replacement. I purchased this new sold by: Amazon.com LLC on April 23, 2013.

Rome's #130 Adjustable 20 Inch x 15 Inch Surface Cooking Grate Review

I did use this once to grill steaks in my fireplace. Fitting it inside the fireplace wasn't that difficult, although I did have to remove parts of the andirons to accomodate the cooking grate frame. Two problems I did have, though, were the handles on the cooking grate, and the steel pegs that hdld the grate in place. With the wooden cooking grate handles, they stuck out too far and I couldn't close my fireplace doors (which I wanted to do while the meat was cooking so smoke wasn't going inside my house). So I unbolted them for a quick fix. However, in trying to use the adjustable levels to place the cooking grate, some of the two inch steel pegs fell off, yes, I said fell off! Upon closer inspection it appears to have been very shoddy weld points. I had three of the steel pegs fall off, and this wasn't due to severe stress, just the normal placement of the cooking grate at the different height levels. On a positive note, Amazon had a no questions asked return policy, and I was able to return the item at no cost to me, and received a full refund.

I purchased the Power 30 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch nearly three years ago.
I installed the switch to provided uninterupted service between my Honda 3000 EU and my Magnum 2800 watt inverter.
The switch has worked flawlessly for nearly three years, providing uninterupted power when the generator shuts down.
I have observed no chatter or RF problems with this switch, and it works fine in any position.
The only complaint I have is that the case is a bit weak, however it is rated for indoor use only so this was not a problem during installation.
If you are looking for a 30 amp transfer switch that holds up well to time and nameplate ratings at a reasonable cost, consider this switch.
P.S. I don't have information on the contact reps before failure but I installed one of these in a friends house to switch his Trace 2000 inverter over 10 years ago and he tells me that it still works fine. (So does the inverter)
