Hayward SP0410X502S Micro-Clear Slide Valve Assembly with 2-Inch Pipe Review

This is a copy & paste of my review of the replacement piston handle assembly that you will no doubt need eventually for this poor pool valve. See the original review here: [...]

Review:
I finally got fed up with my multiport valve having frequent need of replacing the spider gasket. So, I decided to switch to the simpler push-pull valve approach. I reasoned that I only really needed two functions - filter and backwash - and that a simple set of O-rings were more likely to last than the spider gaskets I had been dealing with. Well, all seemed good initially. But after a couple of months of use when I went out on a routine backwash mission, I was dismayed to find that when I returned the valve to the filter position, it started leaking water out the top where the piston slides through the cap. After a little investigation, I found that there is a tiny O-ring inside that cap that seals the water from coming out through that point. Unfortunately, it was so hard to disassemble the thing to find this in the first place and the prospect of properly seating a replacement O-ring looked so poor that I opted to buy a replacement piston assembly instead. I felt at the time it was my fault as the water quality had been very poor for a while and had contributed to early corroding of the steel piston tube.

However, I had (and have continued to have) my water in great shape when I replaced with the new part. Again, though, after about a month of use I went out to backwash the pool and the same thing has happened again! I have not needed to backwash much since I replaced this part as the water has been that stable and the filter pressure had not built up. I have not disassembled this newest piston, but I am confident it is the same issue. I am very disappointed in the fragility of that top O-ring and have to wonder how anybody has any success using this push-pull valve over any kind of significant time.

I will have to return to using a multi-port value. Although those have also been troublesome, they have at least lasted much longer than this valve before giving me trouble.

Flowtron YC-500B Handy Hauler Yard Cart with 5-Cubic-Foot Carrying Capacity Review

Bought to replace the old Step2 cart which we cannot find anymore, this one looks like it is going to be a winner. It has already hauled leaves, limbs, hay bales and about 150 pounds of rock at a time and it is doing just fine. Poor little thing got lucky and ended up the only working cart on the place besides my toddler's John Deere wagon.

Now I'll just have to see how it goes in the long term, the old Step2 is 10 years old now and the tires are split apart, the bottom is cracked and I've had a couple of the bolts rust out, so the poor thing has been relegated to leaves hauling only, but it took a beating in its time. The only thing worrying me is the little legs on the back, the Step2 was more flush to the ground which meant you could use it as a sledge for bigger loads.

And like one of the previous commenters, I wish someone sold the accessory rack. I can probably rig one, but it would be nice to have one that just dropped in and out as you needed it.

Leisure Time 45105 Bromine Deluxe Spa Care Kit with Instructional DVD Review

We set up our first hot tub last year and went to the local spa shop and picked up chlorine products. I had no idea what I was doing at the time, but trusted the store. I had to add significant amounts of chlorine to keep up the levels. Thus when I drained / refilled the spa this year, I did my research this time. After finding out that bromine was more stable at higher temps, unlike chlorine, I tried to find a "all in one" kit for bromine. This kit does have *most* everything that you need, plus some things that you probably don't ever need. The included DVD disk walked me through the process and gave good explanation for the whole startup process. The included manual is essentially a copy of the DVD. I really like the bromine FLOATER that you simply place in your spa and it continuously releases bromine. As of now, the only other product that I've needed to buy outside the kit is a Calcium supplement. My H2O was low on calcium, thus needed supplemented, but this is not in the kit. Thus this is my reason for the 4 star instead of 5. AFTER this, I will likely be buying in bulk, but this starter kit was a great purchase to get things running.

VAPORIZER - COMMERCIAL GRADE

Grower's Edge Vaporizer Commercial Grade Review

I've had one of these for a couple of months now. I find myself moving this thing around various green houses, and doing so while the unit is still hot. I have spilled liquid sulfur twice now. The ground is fine, though my shoes are not. The unit is doing what is says it will do. JUST BE CAREFUL WHEN MOVING IT. It works better than anything else I've tried! And I don't blame it for me being a bumbling fool.

Music of the Spheres Pentatonic Soprano Wind Chime (Model PS) Review

Music of the Spheres makes arguably the best wind chimes you can buy. Durable weather-resistant construction (though I do take mine indoors during OH winter months), and great selection of tunings to suit your tastes and moods. Designed to be able to chime together and create harmonic tapestries.

I've given a number of them as wedding gifts -- like to think of them all ringing in their respective corners, and their frequencies resonating together somewhere in the Universe.

Can run on the expensive side, but worth it -- and if you watch, there are often sales. Enjoy!

Intermatic ML300RTWSN 300 Watt Low Voltage Lighting Transformer, Sand Review

Bought this to replace several 88 watt and a 121 watt. I figured I could run them all into one box, and save space and make it easier on myself to reset timers. That part worked, but, since it was in my crawl space, the first night it turned on, I was amazed at the sound. It came up through the stairs and straight into the bedrooms. The floor was humming. I finally ended up changing my strategy and put in in an unattached garage. I would have sent it back, but it is so heavy that it would have cost mega bucks to return. So, it works, but you will know it works. If you are going to use this, make sure it is far from any place you will be.
