Hydro Tools 51160 16-Foot by 3-Inch Aluminum In-Ground Pool Cross Pole Set Review

As others have noted, this item is ONLY the aluminum poles. You have to purchase a crank/stand separately. Putting this together was a bit of a challenge to say the least and required a few trips to the hardware store. You basically have to telescope the poles to your desired length, drill through the metal, and then install bolts at right angles to one another all the way through the poles. I had a few challenges with installation: (1) The bolts included were different lengths, despite the directions saying that they should all be the same. (2) The "pre-drilled" holes are not at right angles to one another. As a result, I had to drill additional holes from scratch to get the bolts in the correct orientation. (3) The included straps that connect to the solar cover are quite short (roughly 2 feet each), so if your pool is anything other than perfectly rectangular, you're going to need longer straps. (4) Finally, you have to drill these holes plus additional holes for the straps through a metal pole within a few feet of your pool in order to get everything into the correct position. This was less than ideal for a place where we run around with bare feet. All of this said, once we got the poles together. They seem to work just fine without a huge amount of sagging across the span. If you can survive/improvise on the installation, they do the job.

Royce Lighting RL9145PST/BK Universal Post Outdoor Lamp.Black Review

I was unable to find a lamp post that didn't have a crossbar in it and that could just be sunk into concrete. I settled on this one even though it required a bit more work to install.

Before ordering I emailed Royce Lighting to ask for a copy of the installation instructions. I never heard back from them. I then surmised that since it has three holes in the base that it had to be bolted down. After searching the internet for help, I then knew what type of work would be involved to install this.

Dig at least a two-foot deep, twelve-inch diameter hole. (Instructions with the lamp post say to have an 18 inch diameter hole.) Dig a two-foot deep trench for the electrical wire and conduit. I used most of three 80 pound bags of concrete mix after filling the bottom of the hole with a few inches of stone and having the concrete form rise a few inches above the ground.

The included mounting bracket with three anchor bolts is set and leveled in the wet concrete. After the concrete dried, I ran into a problem when I went to install the post base over the anchor bolts. The holes of the base were pressing against the outside of each of the bolts and I was concerned that the threads were going to get damaged so I used a 1/2 inch drill bit to enlarge the holes. The base then easily slipped over the bolts.

The second section of the post attaches with three screws and the third section threads onto the second one. There is a three inch post cup to which I attached the lamp.

All-in-all I am pleased with the post. It is very good looking and a lot nicer than a plain straight post. I am giving it four stars since I had to modify the base by drilling out the holes. I also think that Royce Lighting not answering my email may be a sign of poor customer service.

If you need easier entry to your pool, consider these handrails. The quality is excellent (stainless steel) and it was easy to install. Only instructions available were the dimensions in Amazon's listing but obvious to follow. Another help was at Lowes which directed me to the right Quickrete bag. One for each footing. I used 2 bags total. Amazon really helped with accesory suggestions, as it showed the right anchors and cover plates. I was quoted over $750 for two rails, but did it myself for less than $250 and 1 weekend of work. Now if only the weather was a bit warmer...

First this is made in china... It is best to set the parts out in the sun for a day to get rid of the chemical smell!!!
your first clue on how to put this together-as usual the directions are pictures- the screws that are with the kit are a laugh and the dowling glued into the parts are tiny! If you put it together using the screws given than expect any raccoon, possum or skunk to eat your kids pet!

INSTEAD.....

I went to my local, Lowes hardware and picked up 8 packages of L Brackets/ corner braces- the brand-Stanley 1 inch x 1/2 inch and a package of Zinc Hex Washer Head screws 10x1/2 -#100 in a pkg. For the base of the hutch/ house I used the L brackets to fasten the walls together ( from inside) top and bottoms of all sides. I placed in the provided "wood floor pieces" and from the underside fastened the floor to the walls. I hammered a couple braces flat and screwed the 2 floor pieces together. Since I put the hutch on wheels I did not want a varmit pushing the floor up.

NOTE: they provide you with a divider....mine was a laugh!! no matter how I tried it was either too large or too small to fit. So I tossed it out.

For the "Screened run area" I hammered numerous L brackets flat so as to connect the sides together. For the top piece to the run, I again hammered L braces flat and then secured the front top part to the run sides leaving the part closest to the hutch open able for cleaning. I will install a varmit proof latch to secure this later. Depending on how high any wheels used are....if you choose to put your on wheels for easier moving...you will need to add wire to the bottom of the whole assembly to prevent varmits from entering.

All in all I am happy with the unit. I made sure to comb the net to look for the best price!I did not want to spend the time making a small hutch for my broody hen to hatch and rear her chicks. This will do nicely.
