Our rugged mesh cover makes spring clean-up a snap. The secret to this unique dirt defender cover is the tightly woven scrim that holds together insuring that no gaps or holes develop. Rugged mesh allows only rain water and very fine silt to pass through. Since the cover is made of mesh that is very lightweight, simply lift it off in the spring. No heavy water to lift off or time consuming cover pumping. Simply remove rugged mesh, vacuum up the fine silt and open your pool. Rugged mesh's fine mesh allows rain and snow to slowly fill your pool, saving water and chemicals in the spring. Since our scrim is so tightly woven, the cover allows almost no sunlight through and ensures an algae-free pool in the spring. Dirt defender mesh covers are made from tough u.v. protected woven polyethylene that is strong enough to handle ice, snow, sleet and high winds. Rugged double stitched hems are triple reinforced for strength, and the cover's black underside retards algae growth. All dirt defender in ground rugged mesh covers have a 5-feet overlap with loops every 4-feet to secure water bags. Corner grommets allow for extra tie down in windy areas. The cover is well made with heavy stitching, reinforcements and grommets along the whole length. It's light and easy to manage. I installed the 20x40 ft model by myself.
The one thing that troubles me is the "feature" that lets the water through. It was a major appeal for me as I don't like standing water I have to pump. However, it's not so much a special design of the tarp that lets rain water through and keeps pool water out. It's rather the fact that the mesh is loose. Because of that, it will also let the pool water seep through the cover if you install it loose standing on the water surface. I've observed significant evaporation in 40-60 degree temperatures.
What the cover needs is to be pulled tight so that it doesn't touch the pool water. That means a lot of bags or better yet, using the grommets to secure it with ropes.
