The electronic garden (pot) and the plant cartridge work together like a printer. Just like you can change the empty printer cartridge, you can change the plant cartridge in the Click & Grow pot. If the plant s natural life cycle ends, you can remove the old plant cartridge and insert a new one. Immediately the flowerpot will start to grow a new plant! For that you don t have to buy a whole new flowerpot, instead you only have to change the cartridge. After placing the new plant cartridge into the flowerpot, it will install all the necessary data for growing the specific plant from the cartridge and the new plant starts to grow.

The starter-kit includes everything you need to start growing a plant in the flowerpot. You need to add batteries (Not included in the starter-kit) and fill the water reservoir with 1 liter of good quality water up to the indicated water level mark. After a month or two you need to refill the water reservoir and once a year you need to change the batteries. If the flowerpot needs water the LED on the front will blink blue and if it needs new batteries, red will blink as a reminder. If everything is well, a green light will blink once every five minutes.

The Click & Grow Cockscomb or "Prince of Wales Feathers" provide flower beds with eye-catching colors all season long and requires minimal care. Flower plumes resemble feathers or a flame from a fire in both color and shape. The genetics used in our pot are notorious for their compact growth and early blooming. This annual plant grows best on a sunny windowsill but can also tolerate shadier office desks. Germination is fast - usually less than a week. Flowers may start appearing in just two months. Lifespan can range from 4 to 12 months.

I bought some of these as a gift, not really knowing what to expect. First everyone just loved them and thought they were so cool.

Second, very easy set up, insert batteries and water and that is about it. Nice feature is blinking light tells you: all is well (green), or needs water or needs new batteries.

UPDATE (1/5/13): INITIALLY I GAVE THIS FIVE STARS. AFTER TRYING MULTIPLE REFILLS (3), THEY DO SPROUT RIGHT AWAY BUT THEY NEVER GROW AND THEN JUST WILT AND DIE. GREEN LIGHT BLINKS, PLENTY OF WATER BUT THEY NEVER GROW. NEVER.

ANOTHER UPDATE (2/9/13): USED MY LAST REFILL AND THIS ONE DID NOT EVEN SPROUT. SO $60 FOR THE UNIT AND $20 FOR EACH REFILL, SO FOR $120 I GOT SOME 1/4 INCH SPROUTS THAT DIED ON TWO REFILLS AND NOTHING ON ONE. I JUST PUT IT IN THE TRASH.

THIS IS THE WORST ITEM I HAVE EVER BOUGHT ON AMAZON BY FAR, JUST A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY.
